For banking members: Closing your account

Please note: If you are an Oportun loan borrower or hold an Oportun Visa® Credit Card, closing your account will not affect your loan or credit card status. 


How do I close my account, or change to just using savings?

If you'd like to close your account, or switch over to using savings-only, please contact our Support Team by submitting a ticket or by calling the toll-free number located on your Oportun Visa Debit Card.


Before closing your account

Some things you can do before contacting us that will expedite the close process are:

  • Transfer your Savings, Spending, and Bills balances to a linked checking account
  • Close and retrieve your balance from your investing or retirement account
  • Make sure your direct deposit is set to post to a different bank account
  • Wait until pending transfers into Spending have cleared and no new ones are queued
